This is a useful, comprehensive, practical, handy book for a person who truly wants to transform his/her life. But reading this book would be worthwhile only if the suggested steps are taken towards transformation, else it will only increase by 1 the number of books read in the calendar year.

The author Amit Agarwal puts it well in the Conclusion:

“It is not information but implementation that leads to transformation.” (p.193)

Essentially, Unlock Your Inner Superhero demands reflection on varied areas of life one or more of which a reader might need transformation in; the “Ask Yourself” section within each chapter ably guides towards such reflection. This reflection followed practically by the clear, realistic steps towards growth will surely yield exceptional results.

Though certainly a useful and convenient resource, Unlock Your Inner Superhero is not offering unthought-of or unheard-of ideas. It gives principles and actionable steps that many, if not most, are already aware of. The achievement of the book lies in how those principles and steps are presented in an easily accessible manner, and with real-life examples and points for deliberation that are intended to give the required push to a willing-to-be-motivated reader.

The format is well-crafted – apt quotes from well-known people, discussion of the topic at hand and the Science that goes with it, outlining of key components relevant to the topic, real-life examples, questions to ponder over, and the next moves to make. In some instances, suggestions and samples are provided to further explain the actions to take. One thing that was not required was writing “Author” to attribute significant statements made; it is obvious that they are by the author.

Quite interestingly, Agarwal draws comparisons often with situations superheroes face and how they respond to or handle them, and then suggests to the reader what he/ she - as the superhero of his/ her own life – must do in a similar strain. These parallels are apt, keeping in view the title – Unlock Your Inner Superhero. Agarwal provides examples from his own and other people’s lives to inspire the reader by stressing that it is indeed possible for a determined individual to achieve all his/ her goals. The fact that the author gives examples from his own experiences and transformations serves to highlight that he is not simply preaching, and is the right person to motivate others to become better versions of themselves and consequently lead more fulfilling lives.

The structure and the language make it easy to comprehend and retain the ideas discussed. Some repetition of ideas helps drill home the point, true – but at a few places, especially in the early portions of the book, certain ideas are repeatedly presented in different words. This could have been avoided to make the book crisper. Though the book, as a whole, is deftly produced, certain sections stand out; Chapter-14 - “The Importance of Audit and Review” and the sub-section on forgiveness in Chapter-3 are among the portions that are particularly well-written. 

As already mentioned, if dedicated efforts are made post reading this book, the exercise in reading would become a truly fruitful one. The reader would need to believe sincerely in his /her ability to reconstruct his/ her life. As Agarwal says, 

“Your greatest superpower is not strength or speed – it’s the ability to believe in your own potential.” (p.8)
